Festive dhamaka awaits AP people

State plans to distribute clothes, essential commodities
Hyderabad: In the wake of a deep sense of disappointment due to bifurcation of the state, there is some good news for the people of Andhra Pradesh as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is planning a festival dhamaka for them.
After completing 100 days in office, the Telugu Desam government is preparing an action plan to give festival gifts to the people of the residuary state for Dasara and Diwali.
The gifts include clothes, dhotis, saris and essential commodities to elders, books and sweets to children and even a proposal to distribute crackers.
Come Dasara, a festival atmosphere will prevail in Andhra Pradesh and it will continue up to month-end i.e. October 31. Social welfare minister R Kishore Babu said the list of items to be given as gifts to the families covered under Below Poverty Line (BPL) category will be finalised in the next Cabinet meeting. The festival dhamaka will be applicable to BPL families.
“It is going to be a festival time in Andhra Pradesh the entire October. The gift or gift hampers or gift baskets, how many items and in what form if given in baskets all such modalities would be discussed and are likely to finalised in the next Cabinet meeting,’ he said.
Though the AP government is faced with over Rs 16,000 crore deficit budget during the current financial year, the officials are yet to calculate the financial implication for the state exchequer due to the ‘festival Dhamaka’ being planned by the state government.
As part of celebrating October as festival month, the AP government also plans to take up several programmes like Neeru-Chettu.
