Coastal clean up drive tomorrow

Service personnel will be joined in their endeavour by members of prominent clubs
Visakhapatnam: The 29th International Coastal Cleanup Day will be observed worldwide on Saturday, with the theme ‘Fighting for trash-free sea’. Personnel of Eastern Naval Command (ENC) and the Coast Guard along with their families will take up a mammoth Coastal Cleanup Drive starting from Ramakrishna beach to Rushikonda, Yerada and Kalinga beaches including waterfronts along the Tenneti Park, Double Bridge and the Naval Dockyard.
The service personnel will be joined in their endeavour by members of prominent clubs and organisations of Visakhapatnam including the Consumer Protection Council, Lion's Club, the NSS Wing of Andhra University, Papa Home, Century Club, Y Men's Club, HSL Scout Crew, Oxford Talent School, Human Rights Association and students of the Navy Children School.
The Coastal Cleanup drive has gained importance in Visakhapatnam for last few years due to infrastructural development and exponential rise in the field of industrialisation which has directly affected environment and surroundings. These major advances have direct impact on surrounding areas and also the adjoining sea region due to major dumping of sewage and industrial waste.
On the occasion of International Coastal Cleanup Day this year the cleanup drive is jointly undertaken for the third time with more than 1,500 citizens of Visakhapatnam and about 3,000 Naval personnel and their families.
ENC, chief of staff vice admiral Bimal Verma, will formally inaugurate the event at 7.30 on Saturday at Kursura Submarine museum.
