Telangana contract staff to be regularised

There are about 25,000 contract employees as per records
Hyderabad: Telangana state government is busy working out modalities for regularising the services of government contract employees, which is part of the party’s election manifesto. A section of students, especially from Osmania University, however, opposed the government’s decision and staged protests. They felt that such a move would deprive them of employment opportunities.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao seemed to be in no mood to relent, though. Chief Secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma held a meeting with senior officials to finalise the modalities for regularising the contract employees working in various departments in the state.
There are about 25,000 contract employees as per records and an additional 10,000 more drafted in for work in various departments, corporations and organisations. The government constituted committee would look into the available vacancies, sanctioned posts, reservations and other criteria before taking a decision to regularise the services of eligible contract staffers.
