Hyderabad High Court to study fee hike structure

State govt to increase fee of management quota seats in minority and non-minority pvt unaided medical colleges
Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday decided to review the decision of the Telangana state government to increase fee structure of management quota seats in minority and non-minority private unaided medical colleges for the academic year 2014-15.
A division bench comprising Justice R. Subhash Reddy and Justice A. Shankar Narayana was admitting a public interest litigation (PIL) by the Telangana
Students Joint Action Committee represented by its president D. Balaraju. The PIL challenged the GO MS numbers 9 and 10, amending the fee structure for C1-category management quota seats from Rs 5.5 lakh to Rs 9 lakh in non-minority institutions and for B1-category seats in minority institutions from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 9 lakh.
The petitioner said that this decision of the government will hamper the chances of meritorious students. Pointing out that the decision seems to be contrary to the directions of the Supreme Court with regard to admissions into private medical colleges; Justice Subhash Reddy said that the court will examine the matter. The bench issued notices to all the respondents, including the Telangana government, directing them to file counter affidavits.
