Mahesh Babu-starrer has entered the record books even before its release

Hyderabad: Ahead of its Friday release, the Mahesh Babu-starrer Aagadu has in all probability become the most expensive Telugu film when it comes to promotions. And the Rs 3 crore that the makers invested in promoting the film seems to have been well spent given the huge queues for advance booking that the film is seeing all over.
“We used social media and the Internet rigorously for the promotion of our film and we also tied up with some brands,” says Anil Sunkara, one of the producers of the film.
Aagadu is releasing on Friday in almost 2,000 screens all over the world.
“We got 110 theatres in North India where it will release with sub-titles. We tied up with Eros, so it was possible for us to get good theatres there,” adds Anil.
“Our job was easy because we had superstar Mahesh Babu on board and many people came forward to tie up with us,” he says.
This was the first big film that saw promotions on a train, which the fans dubbed as the Aagadu Express. In Vijayawada too, a 90-foot cut out of Mahesh Babu was to be installed in front of a theatre, but the police objected as it might touch electric poles. Later it was agreed for it to be installed elsewhere. In Vizag on Wednesday, around 4000 fans came together and formed a 12,019 feet “police belt” made of vinyl at the RK Beach in an effort to enter the record books. The city was painted white with fans flying Aagadu banners all over. The event, which lasted about 45 minutes, started off with a ‘Mahesh Babu quiz’.
Speaking on the occasion, the president of Superstar Krishna Fan Club Association said, “Mahesh Babu is more than life for us. He is the only star who broke many records in Tollywood and now he will be the only star who will have the world record for the longest belt. We are also very sure that Aagadu will be a super hit.”
This is also the first time that a Telugu film is releasing in the Andamans on the same day as its national release. Earlier, Telugu films in the region always released a few weeks later.
“The government has given permission to us to release on the same day,” says the producer.
The film is also releasing in different countries, including Nigeria. In Hyderabad, there are around 20 benefit shows taking place with tickets ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000, and all the shows are sold out.
The film has been made with around Rs 60 crore and the producers are confident that they will easily recover their investment.
