Telangana objects to AP impounding water in Pulichintala project

Pulichintala Project will submerge several villages in Nalgonda district
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has objected to Andhra Pradesh government impounding water in Pulichintala Project. Telangana chief secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma wrote a letter to his AP counterpart I.Y.R. Krishna Rao in this regard.
The Telangana government requested the AP government not to impound water in Pulichintala project, since it submerged several villages in Nalgonda district, causing misery to the inhabitants of these villages.
Dr K.L. Rao Sagar Pulichintala Project on river Krishna was recently commissioned the project before bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh with a total storage capacity of 45 TMC of water. The letter said that the part of submergence was under the reservoir is in Nalgonda district of Telangana state and the other part in Guntur district of AP state.
Dr Sharma said that in view of copious releases from Nagarjunasagar, the water would be impounded in Pulichintala project. He pointed out that without providing resources for rehabilitation and resettlement of villages in Nalgonda district, Andhra Pradesh started impounding the water and due to this several villages of Nalgonda are submerged.
He requested the chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh to direct the concerned staff of Pulichintala not to impound water without completing rehabilitation and resettlement work in the district of Nalgonda.
In an identical letter, the chief secretary of TS also requested Mr Alok Rawat, secretary, Central Water Resources, to direct the AP government not to go ahead with the impounding of water.
Meanwhile, the Irrigation Minister, Mr T Harish Rao spoke to Mr Aditya Nath Das, secretary Irrigation, A P Government, to resolve the issue. He also demanded the release of compensation to the affected people due to submerging of villages.
