PM Narendra Modi turns 64, meets mother Heeraben to seek blessings

Modi also received a call from Japanese PM Shinzo Abe who wished him on his birthday

Ahmedabad: On his birthday today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his mother in Gandhinagar to seek her blessings and received calls from his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe and President Pranab Mukherjee to wish him.

Modi, who turned 64, went to Gandhinagar, 23 km from Ahmedabad, alone in a normal vehicle without any security to meet his mother Heeraben on his first birthday as Prime Minister, sources said.

On the occasion, she donated Rs 5000 for the Prime Minister's Relief Fund for Jammu and Kashmir, they said. 95-year-old Heeraben enquired her son about his health and work as PM. Modi spent 15 minutes with her. This is his first visit to the home state after becoming the Prime Minister almost four months ago.

Modi is in Gujarat to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping who will be arriving here this afternoon. Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel 'saluted' Prime Mininster Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben. In an early morning tweet, Patel said, "On the occasion of his b'day, I salute Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben for giving us a nationalist son".

Patel also posted a photograph of Modi with her mother. She also visited Rajbhavan this morning to personally greet Modi on his birthday, an official said.

Tamil Nadu Governor greets Modi on his birthday

Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah on Wednesday greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday.

"I wish you a long, happy and healthy life in your distinguished service to the people and the nation," Rosaiah said in his greetings to Modi who turned 64 today.

"You are our nation's pride, a guiding spirit and a beacon of light. Your people oriented development projects dedication and commitment to serve the nation have made India all set to become a global leader," he said in his message.

Jayalalithaa greets Modi on his 64th birthday

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa also greeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his 64th birthday wishing him many years of good health to serve the country. "On the joyous occasion of your birthday, I would like to convey my felicitations to you and wish you many more happy returns of the day."

"I pray that the Almighty may grant you many more years of good health to serve our nation," Jayalalithaa said in her mesage to Modi.
