Hyderabad: The Telangana government committee on women’s safety has proposed to release a set of guidelines to be aired on media for a wider reach.
“The role of media is significant in bringing transformation in society and hence the resort to both print and electronic media,” said committee convener Poonam Malakondaiah during an interaction with media representatives.
“We will propose a free special time slot for social media campaigns on a daily basis to educate the public on women’s safety and security. The state plans to partner with the media to spread awareness about the effective implementation of legislation and regulations for redressal of crimes against teenage girls and women,” she said.
The committee which is interacting with different sections of society, will meet transport and health officials and file a report with short-term plans to the government by September 20.
Other proposals made by the committee include a call centre linked directly with police stations, a data centre to provide access to information on crime against women, gender sensitisation at workplaces by setting up grievance cells at the staff union level and strengthening facilities at women rescue homes and measures for rehabilitation.
