From Guntur to Tollywood

K.S. Ravindra has delivered a big hit with Power
Hyderabad: The Ravi Teja-Hansika-starrer Power is a big hit and the most successful film of Ravi Teja’s career. It is K.S. Ravindra’s (Bobby) first film as director. The writer- turned-director is the talk of the industry with his debut film. A successful script-writer and now he is a hit director too.
In his youth, Ravindra watched every movie that was released. “I watched Okkadu many times and Indra too. Even when I would be studying for my graduation, we would make cut outs and garlands when the films would release,” remembers Ravindra.
“My journey in films started in 2003. After my graduation in B.Com, I wanted to join films, but I didn’t know who to meet. I had no contacts in the film industry,” says Ravindra. At that time, writer Chinni Krishna, who wrote the script for Chiranjeevi’s blockbuster Indra, visited Guntur. “It was to celebrate the success of the film, I garlanded Chinni Krishna at that time. I took his number and I told him that I was interested in working in films,” Ravindra recalls.
Ravindra called Chinni Krishna several times. “Finally, he asked me to meet him. He was busy with Gangotri at that time. He gave me a scene and asked me to write the dialogues. I did so immediately and he was impressed. He asked me to join him.” That’s how Ravindra’s film journey started. After that,he worked with different directors; and finally he wrote on his own for Ravi Teja’s earlier film Balupu, a blockbuster that was released last year.
“I never thought that I would become a director in such a short span of time. When I was working on Balupu, I narrated a story to Ravi Teja. He encouraged me and asked me to make it into a film and that’s how my first movie happened as a director,” says Ravindra.
Talking about his future projects, he says he is enjoying the success at present and hasn’t yet decided about his second film. “I don’t want to experiment now and would want to make films on entertaining subjects,” he says.
