Plea against AIADMK candidate’s election

He came to know that the local AIADMK leaders had committed forgery

Chennai: A BJP candidate has approached the Madras high court to declare the election of AIADMK candidate S. Selviah as member, ward No. 12, Andimadam panchayat union, Ariyalur district, by the block development officer (BDO), as illegal and to set it aside.

The petition, filed by K. Chinnapillai of Ariyalur district, is likely to come up for hearing on September 15. In his petition, filed through advocate Rabu Manohar, the petitioner submitted that he filed his nomination for contesting elections for the office of member, ward No. 12 as a BJP candidate on September 4 and it was accepted after scrutiny on the next day. While doing so, on September 9, the BDO had declared AIADMK candidate Selviah elected unopposed.

He came to know that the local AIADMK leaders had committed forgery as if he had withdrawn his nomination. He met the BDO and asked him how it happened. He told him that his job was over on scrutiny of nominations and that the assistant director of the panchayat was responsible for declaring the result.

He met the assistant director and asked him how he could declare Selviah's election unopposed. He told him that he compared the signature in the nomination and found that the signature tallied and therefore declared Selviah elected.
