My ties with Prime Minister are cordial, says Rajnath Singh

Mr Singh described the working of the MHA as a cricket “Test match.”

New Delhi: Breaking his silence on the reported differences with Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his No. 2 position in the NDA government, Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday dismissed reports of any friction, saying the relationship between the two is “cordial.”

“He is our respected Prime Minister and an effective Prime Minister who is a doer, and I am the home minister in his government. What else?” Mr Singh said.

After a pause, Mr Singh continued to describe his relations with Mr Modi as “madhur,” or cordial.

“Humare sambandh madhur thay, madhur hain aur madhur rahenge (Our relations were cordial, are cordial and will always remain cordial).”

In his opening statement at the press conference on 100 days of his ministry, Mr Singh described the working of the MHA as a cricket “Test match.”

“What is love jihad?” was his prompt reply, with a smile, when he was asked about his views on it.

Many BJP leaders, including Lakshmikant Bajpayee and Yogi Adityanath, have raised the issue ahead of the UP polls. “Arrey yeh hai kya? Hume nahin maloom (What is it? I don't know),” he said.
