Telangana backed away on survey too

The latest, which put everyone in a quandary, is the decision on creation of new states

Hyderabad: On the eve of the Household Survey, there was another “selective leak” on the inclusion of 1956 as the cut-off year for nativity. Following an outrage in the state, the Chief Minister said there was no such clause and, accordingly the format for the household survey was changed. The latest, which put everyone in a quandary, is the decision on creation of new states.

If one goes by precedents on the delimitation process, a committee is appointed by the Union home ministry, which supposed take about a year to complete the exercise before the final publication of the proposals. Delimitation of constituencies will result in hiking the existing Assembly strength from 119 to 153. The CM’s latest view is that it would be better to create new districts once the Assembly delimitation is completed so that there will is overlapping of the Assembly segments in districts. In 2009, when the delimitation exercise was done, care was taken to restrict Assembly constituency within the same district.
