Cadets will control vehicles for 5 days at junctions

KARIMNAGAR: In a bid to create awareness about traffic rules among public and to get first hand experience in the challenges involved in regulating traffic, NCC cadets of Sri Raja Rajeswara Degree College (SRRDC) will don the role of traffic police from September 15 to September 20.
The cadets would regulate traffic at various junctions in the city on these days between 4-6 pm. The programme is being organised in collaboration with the traffic police.
The SRRDC’s NCC wing has 200 members. Of them, 50 cadets will be assigned to regulate traffic at junctions that are not equipped with traffic signals. A five-member team of the cadets will discharge the role of a traffic cop at 10 junctions in the city.
At the same time, the cadets will also distribute pamphlets that explain traffic rules to be followed by the public. In addition, large LCD displays will be erected at prominent junctions to educate public on the importance of following traffic rules and road safety.
SRRDC principal B. Madhusudan Reddy said the cadets would be able to understand problems involved in controlling traffic, besides enhancing awareness over traffic rules among public. “The wing is taking up the programme for the second time. A similar programme was held in 2009,” he reminded.
“About 10 junctions were identified for the teams to control traffic. On Friday evening, the cadets were trained by traffic police on how to regulate vehicles. Karimnagar SP V. Siva Kumar gave the guidance for the initiative,” he said.
