Singapore plan may not be viable for new Andhra Pradesh capital

Singapore proposed new capital on the basis of a government to government system
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government may not accept the Singapore government’s proposal on building of the new capital on the basis of a government to government system as this would impose heavier financial burden on the state as well as the Central government.
A Singapore government team floated the proposal on Wednesday to Union urban development minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Wednesday.
In this system the state and the Centre have to bear the entire cost and Singapore will come up with the capital while the AP government is planning to hand it over to developers without any financial burden on the exchequer. In the backdrop of AP’s financial constraints, the G-to-G proposal will take more time to build the new capital for AP.
Proposed Capital spells doom for Kolleru wetland
One of the biggest fresh water lakes of the country, Kolleru, is facing the threat of extinction with increasing encroachments following high demand of land in the proposed capital region of Andhra Pradesh.
Despite repeated orders of Supreme Court on the conservation of wetlands, the encroachments are going unabated with alleged support from political leaders in Krishna and West Godavari district.
The encroachments are more in Kaikaluru and Mandavalli mandals of Krishna district. While a few days back only fish tanks were encroaching the lake bed, now realtors are also being seen in the area. It may be noted that a forest ranger was suspended recently on the charges of encroachments.
