Fifth grader electrocuted in school yard

'Nagesh had stepped into the sump to fill his water bottle during lunch break'

Bengaluru: A 10-year-old student of a government school in Bidrahalli near Hosakote in Avlahalli police station limits was electrocuted as he tried to fill his water bottle in a water sump on campus school when he came in contact with the motor. The deceased is Nagesh Anjanappa, a fifth standard student and son of Anjanappa, from Adur near Avalahalli.

Nagesh's classmates heard his cries and rushed to the spot, but in vain. "Nagesh had stepped into the sump to fill his water bottle during lunch break. He came in contact with the motor, was electrocuted and died on the spot," said a police official.

Later, parents gathered at the school to complain about the teachers' negligence. A parent alleged that the teachers didn't touch the victim's body, making another student rescue him instead. This student also received an electric shock and was thrown some distance away.

Speculation was rife and parents alleged that Nagesh's teachers asked him to clean the sump. However, police have stuck to their statement.
