Chennai: M.Gurumoorthy, 45, Athipattu village panchayat president and an AIADMK functionary, was hacked to death in his car by an unidentified gang near Manali new town on Wednesday night. He was traveling with three others including the driver in his SUV when another car rammed into the vehicle near Immanuel Matriculation School in Athipattu, police quoted a few eyewitnesses as saying.
Pillion riders of five bikes, trailing Gurumoorthy’s car, cornered his vehicle. They broke the glass panes and started raining blows with deadly weapons leaving no room for escape, police said. After carrying out the act, they fled. Police rushed to the scene and rescued the four persons and rushed them to a private hospital in Thiruvottiyur.
Gurumoorthy was declared dead on arrival and his body was shifted to Government Stanley Hospital. Three others who suffered injuries are undergoing treatment, police said. Investigations revealed that the deceased had recently shifted allegiance from DMK to AIADMK. Manali police registered a case.
