Stalemate over 2nd phase of EAMCET counselling

Stand-off over the second phase of Eamcet counselling could affect management quota admissions
Hyderabad: Management quota admissions are in a quandary after the higher education councils of the two states once again locked horns over Eamcet counselling.
The Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education notified that applications to management quota seats can be received till September 3 and interviews will be held in a couple of days, but its Telangana counterpart is against any admissions after August 31, since that was the essence of the Supreme Court judgement. APSCHE has already approached the apex court on conducting the second phase of counselling, even as TSCHE said it would file a counter affidavit in court.
TSCHE chairman Prof. T. Papi Reddy said all the colleges, offering post graduate courses in engineering, will be included in counselling as directed by the High Court in its interim order on Tuesday.
However, the stand-off over the second phase of Eamcet counselling could affect management quota admissions. APSCHE has filed a petition in the apex court asking for permission to conduct the second phase counselling.
“We are hopeful that the court will deliver a favourable verdict,” a senior APSCHE official said.
Management quota notification issued by APSCHE said that applications can be filed with the college or the APSCHE between August 26 and September 3, which means actual admissions will happen after mid-September.
“Some colleges have already given a list of candidates, but others are yet to give,” the official said.
TSCHE contends that admissions cannot be conducted after August 31 since it would be a violation of the Supreme Court verdict.
“The judgement is very clear that admissions have to be completed by August 31 and classes are to begin by September 1. There is no question of second phase counselling, but if the apex court directs us to conduct the second phase, we will definitely obey the order,” Prof. Papi Reddy said.
