Flood water recedes in Vamsadhara

Farmers and residents of all 124 flood affected villages in 11 mandals

Srikakulam: Flood water levels started receding in Vamsadhara river at Gotta barrage from 11 pm on Sunday night after rains stopped in its catchment area. Flood waters reduced to 73,000 cusecs and remained at that level till 6 am on Monday and receding further to 71,000 cusecs by 7 am. By 7 pm, the water level recorded at Gotta barrage was 45,000 cusecs. Farmers and residents of all 124 flood affected villages in 11 mandals on either side of the river heaved a sigh of relief.

According to Vamsadhara project divisional engineer (DE), Suvvari Jagadiswara Rao no rainfall was recorded in the catchment area in Srikakulam district or at the six stations, Gunupur, Kasinagar, Kutragada, Mohana, Mahendragada and Gudari in Odisha. Vamsadhara and revenue officials withdrew first warning also by Monday night. Road network was restored in Kotturu, Hiramandalam and Bhamini mandals by Monday morning. Agriculture officials started ascertaining the crop damage like paddy, vegetables, banana and cotton in the 11 mandals.
