Godavari River flooded, hits first warning level

The third warning was given at Bhadrachalam by 6 pm on Monday

Khammam: The Godavari was in full spate at Bhadrachalam on Sunday after heavy rains in the upper catchment areas. Several rivulets were flooded and the waters cut off roads to many villages.

Irrigation authorities hoisted the first warning of 43 feet level at Bhadrachalam after the water touched 35 feet at 8 am and crossed its first warning at 3 pm on Sunday. It went up to 46.5 feet at 7 pm, alarming residents.

The water level in the Godavari was rising with inflows from Pranahita, Taliperu and Indravati.

Central Water Commission officials say that it will touch 53 feet, and the third warning was given at Bhadrachalam by 6 pm on Monday. Water reached the New Col-ony on Bhadrachalam outskirts.

The Met office said 13 cm of rain fell in the upper areas of the Godavari in the last 24 hours. The government has set up a control room with toll free number 0874-2231600, 224204 and 224205 at the collectorate.
