‘Dry run’ of Nithari case convict’s hanging held

Surendra Koli, is to be hanged on September 12

Lucknow: The Meerut jail where the Nithari case convict, Surendra Koli, is to be hanged on September 12, has carried out a ‘dry run’ of the actual hanging. Sources said, a dummy resembling a human body, equivalent to the weight of the convict, was taken to the gallows and then ‘executed’ to ensure that the lever and the rope did not give way during the actual hanging. The Ghaziabad sessions court issued a death warrant against Surendra Koli in connection with the Nithari killings after the President rejected his mercy petition on July 27.
