Breaking the ice: Do’s and don’ts

The advantage and disadvantage of Social Media

Social media has made it easy to be friends with people you have never even met. But when you meet someone in person, it’s a different experience altogether irrespective of whether or not you are already introduced to each other online. While some men may be confident enough to launch a conversation with a stranger, there are others who feel a sudden lump in their throat. Or they have no clue where to start and how to take it forward.

It’s not that people are born with the trait of being able to mingle well with others. There are certain features about those who feel comfortable to talk to unfamiliar people. First, they are confident of themselves. Hence, they are casual when they ask something to begin the conversation. A simple ‘Hi, how are you?’ or ‘I’m so-and-so and you?’ is a good starter for any great conversation. If the person is involved in something, it is easier if you have a clue about what they are doing. For example, you see a person sitting next to you on a train or flight reading a book and you have already read it, there is a golden opportunity. But don’t go overboard. There is a general dislike about people who try to act smart.
