Hyderabad: With Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao about to complete 100 days in office on September 9, the Telangana government on Saturday claimed that it had successfully launched many developmental and welfare initiatives in the state.
The Chief Minister launched and approved major schemes and took decisions on around 100 issues since June 2. Many of those were in the election manifesto. They include waiver of Rs 1 lakh loan to about 40 lakh farmers costing the exchequer a whopping Rs 18,000 crore, 3-acre land to dalits, withdrawal of cases against those who fought for a separate Telangana, a special Telangana increment to government employees and Rs 51,000 marriage grant for poor Muslim brides.
Mr Rao also created a sensation in the country with his unprecedented one-day integrated household survey in the state on August 19 to ascertain the population, socio-economic status, categorisation of SCs, STs, BCs, and forward castes among others.
The government also undertook a massive demolition of illegal structures across Hyderabad, decided to regularise the services of about 20,000 contract workers and okayed payment of Rs 404.58 crore input subsidy to farmers.
Promising to implement FAST (Finance Assistance for Students of Telangana) schemes, the government declared that lack of financial resources should not come in the way of Telangana students pursuing higher studies. Students of both professional courses and higher studies will be covered under the scheme.
“Farmers of Telangana have faced severe crisis due to frequent crop failures, lack of adequate support price, steep hike in input costs and the indifferent attitude of the united Andhra Pradesh government,” the government said in a statement. “Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is aware of the difficulties of farmers, took the decision to waive crop loans, thereby heralding good times to the entire farming community in the state,” it added. Mr Rao has promised 12 per cent reservations for minorities, STs in education and employment and 3 per cent for Christians.
