CC cams at red sanders godowns

The step is been taken to stop smugglers’ attempts to steal red sander logs
Nellore: In the backdrop of smugglers’ attempts to steal red sander logs from forest department’s godowns in the neighbouring districts, forest authorities have installed CC ca-meras in the godowns at Udayagiri, Venkatagiri and Adoorpalli in Nellore district. According to information, smugglers targeted the godowns at Proddutur in Kadapa district, Bhakarapet, Srikalahasti and Rajampeta in Chittoor in the recent past.
Moreover, a small-time smuggler told the officials during interrogation that a gang was for-med when he was in jail to steal red sanders from the godowns since it is much easier than smuggling from the forest. One of the reasons for the plan is that the god-owns are mostly deserted during nights since the forest staff usually go for raids. The information led the officials to take steps to enhance the security at godowns and CC cameras are part of the exercise.
“The red sanders lying both inside as well as ou-tside our godowns and they are worth hundreds of crores. We have to ke-ep a tab not only on outside forces but also insiders since we have several contract workers,” assistant conservator of forest Nagabhushanam said.
He said that they have doubled the night guards in all their godowns, in addition to surveillance through cameras. He added that they have installed equipment to enable all the senior officials to monitor the godowns through online sitting at home.
