Meerut jail prepares for hanging, Surendra Koli gives up food

Koli is likely to be hanged to death on September 12 or 13
Lucknow: Surendra Koli, sentenced to death in the gruesome Nithari case for, has given up food as the date of his hanging approaches. Koli will be the first prisoner in 39 years to be hanged to death in the Meerut jail next week.
According to official sources, Koli is likely to be hanged to death on September 12 or 13. He has been brought to Meerut jail from Ghaziabad after the death warrant was issued.
“Ever since he was brought here on Thursday, he has stopped eating and keeps sobbing bitterly. We are keeping a close watch on his health and he has been kept in a high security barrack,” said a jail official.
The Nithari case sent shock waves across the country when it was found in December 2006 that Surendra Koli, servant of businessman Mohinder Singh Pand-her, was responsible for missing children in No-ida. He was charged with kidnapping, rape, necro-philia and cannibalism.
Jail officials have started making rrangements for the hanging. The hanging will be executed by Pawan Jallad, 44, who says he will be only too happy to hang a criminal like Koli.
