Lt. General P K Rath(retd) cleared of Sukna scam

He is entitled to restoration of all benefits with 12 percent interest, the panel said
New Delhi: The Armed Forces Tribunal on Friday acquitted former 33 Corps chief Lt. Gen. P.K. Rath (retd.) of all charges that he had been found guilty of by an Army Court Martial in January, 2011, in the Sukna land scam and imposed costs of Rs 1 lakh on the Army.
The Tribunal also blamed the respondents in the case which included former Army chief (and current Union minister) Gen.
V.K. Singh (retd.) for their acts which resulted in “undue harassment and loss of reputation” of the petitioner Lt. Gen. Rath (retd.). He had been the first senior-most officer to face disciplinary action.
“The petitioner, Lt. Gen. Rath (retd.) is acquitted of all charges. He is entitled to restoration of all benefits with 12 percent interest,” the tribunal stated on Friday. The case pertains to the grant of a no-objection certificate by the Army’s Siliguri-based 33 Corps for construction on non-Army land adjoining Army land at Sukna in West Bengal in 2009.
