Health of three Osmania University students on an indefinite hunger strike worsens

The students are protesting against the regularisation of contract employees

Hyderabad: The health condition of three students from Osmania University, who were forcefully admitted to Gandhi Hospital, worsened on Friday.

The students are protesting against the regularisation of contract employees.

They began the indefinite hunger strike four days ago on the Osmania University campus expressing their disappointment with the Telangana state for not responding to their 40-day long struggle against making contract employees permanent.

Of the eight, who were admitted, the blood pressure of three people dipped on Friday following which they were forcefully fed.

“On Friday, after their condition worsened, they were forced to break their fast. Since the government did not listen to us, we had to sit for fast unto death,” said Koturi Manavatha Roy, Telangana state president, Vidyarthi Nirudyoga Joint Action Committee.

The union has called for a bandh of all educational institutions on September 10 and a meeting will be held on September 13 to discuss further action.

“We are the ones who fought, not the contract employees. The CM is not recognising our efforts. We won’t campaign in the upcoming Medak elections and they will lose,” he said.
