Sheer outfits in mesh and net fabrics are making their presence felt in fashion

Spring a sheer surprise with outfits in mesh, crochet and fine net fabrics
At the moment fashion sensibilities are enjoying getting entangled in a “meshy” affair. Making the best use of the ‘barely there yet hardly missed’ mesh, crochet and fine net fabrics are big names like Vera Wang and Burberry Prorsum. Simply unforgettable was singer Rihanna, who ignited curiosity and controversy by flaunting a bold and sensuous all-mesh dress at a high profile event recently.
Designer Abhishek Dutta loves the sensuous appeal of mesh, and says, “The fine wire-like mesh fabrics are making the right noise this season. As separates they complement a thicker fabric like no other. Break the monotony with contrast colours or go for uniform chic in a single tone. My first choice in this style is a long straight cut mesh dress, with the inner fabric kept short.”
Dutta feels that while experimenting with mesh you can’t go wrong with a 1980s baggy style mesh top paired with wide leg trousers or well-fitted cigarette pants. He adds, “One can also opt for a well-fitted midi dress with sheer mesh around the midriff area or just over the love handles. Strategically placed mesh panels also stand out in a maxi dress.”
Designer duo Monica and Rajeev Malik are impressed by the timeless appeal of crochet. “An ivory or nude cocktail gown created out of crochet can rock the party scene. Do keep in mind that this style scores well in a clean cut, so it’s better to skip the flowy patterns,” suggests Monica.
While Rajeev gives a casual twist to the theme and says, “Crochets make beautiful shrugs you can team them with a sheath dress or a pencil skirt and even a maxi dress. A long sleeve crochet knit top with denim shorts caters both to style and comfort.”
On the other hand, designer Shruti Bhandari has given the concept a slightly different touch by introducing danka embroidery on crop tops. “The sheer crop tops are embellished with danka work that gives an impression of crochet, but a closer look ensures they stand out for their distinct craft,” shares Shruti, who wants to revive this dying art by offering a trendy touch to it.
Designer Anita Dongre gives this trend a thumbs up, and says, “Cropped bomber jackets in sheer or mesh will be in trend for long.”
