Breakfast with PM Narendra Modi for Mylapore teacher

Lakshmi was the only teacher from Tamil Nadu to receive the National Award for CBSE schools
Chennai: When she first became a teacher years ago, Lakshmi Srinivasan did not imagine that she would one day have breakfast with the Prime Minister of India. “I had only wanted to strive to be a good teacher, to help the children.
It was like a dream this morning having breakfast with the PM as a recipient of the National Award for CBSE teachers. The experience was simply overwhelming,” Lakshmi, principal of P S Senior Secondary School in Mylapore, told Deccan Chronicle in a phone interview. She received the award from HRD minister Smriti Irani in New Delhi on Friday.
About her experience, Lakshmi said unlike the usual celebrations, the Teacher’s Day celebrations of 2014 was very special for her. “Teacher’s Day is meant to reiterate our traditional reverence for our teachers next only to our parents. I felt great being a teacher. It’s a gratifying moment,” said Lakshmi.
She was the only teacher from Tamil Nadu to receive the National Award for CBSE schools. Sixteen other teachers from Tamil Nadu have figured in the list of state board schools for the coveted recognition.
