BJP candidate goes Narendra Modi way

E-campaign to woo Kovai voters and Rath yatra will also be deployed
Coimbatore:After special prayers at the famous Koniamman temple in Coimbatore, BJP's district president and candidate for the mayoral election R.Nandhakumar (56) filed his nomination papers on Thursday.
With barely two weeks to go for the September 18 poll, Nandhakumar has taken a technocue from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reach out to voters. He will go the Modi way and e-campaign through social networking sites like Facebook.
However, the traditional rath yatra of the BJP will also be deployed to woo voters of Coimbatore. Besides, party cadre will go door to door to lure voters. The BJP has jumped into the mayoral race with high hopes as the party had lost the Coimbatore Parliamentary seat three months ago by just 40,000 votes. Nandhakumar has a line-up of promises for the infrastructure-starved industrial city.
Cleansing the corporation corridors of corruption and clearing garbage on the city roads tops his agenda. “I will ensure transparency in the administration of the corporation. Coimbatore was among the 100 cities chosen by PM Narendra Modi to be transformed into smart cities.
I assure voters that good quality roads and a drainage system will be ensured for Coimbatore if I am elected as Mayor.”
He said that a time limit would be framed for issuing birth, death and other certificates to people.
“I will fix deadlines for providing certificates to people. Scores of people wait for years together to get basic documents like birth and death certificates and nativity certificates. I will put an end to this red-tapism,” he said. Power cuts plaguing Coimbatore is also his core campaign theme.
“Many foreign firms do not want to invest in Coimbatore because of frequent power cuts and poor transportation facilities. I will bring them back to our city,” he said. Nandhakumar said that support from the alliance parties the DMDK, MDMK and Kongu Nadu Peravai would add strength for his campaign.
