Bengaluru: The State police have reportedly raised objections at the admission and treatment of the Chairman of Kerala-based People’s Democratic Party – Abdul Nasser Madani, who is also an accused in the July 2008 Bengaluru serial blasts case, in ‘Soukya Holistic Health and Ayurveda Treatment entre’ in Samethanahalli, Whitefield, Bengaluru. They stated that it was a “violation” of his bail condition because ‘Soukya’ is “out of the City limits” and comes under Bengaluru (Rural), said an official source.
According to the Supreme Court, which had on July 11 granted Madani one month bail on health grounds, he was directed to stay in the City for his treatment. “Soukya’ abuts the City but it comes under the jurisdiction of Thirumalshettyhalli police station limits, which is under Bengaluru (Rural), hence we are going to write to the Court for direction,” said Inspector General of Police, (Central range) Ulfath Hussain.
The apex court on August 22 extended Madani’s bail for a period of four weeks after his lawyer pleaded the court that his client required sustained and prolonged medical treatment for his chronic health condition. “We have heard of his bail extension but we have not as yet received the copy of the bail order. We have, however, extended his security at ‘Soukya,” said Superintendent of Police Bengaluru (Rural), Ramesh Bhanoth, who said that they are going to seek direction from the Court on whether Madani’s stay in ‘Soukya’ was in compliance with his bail order.
A ‘Soukya’ spokesperson told this newspaper that they were approached by Circle Inspector, Thirumalshettyhalli police station Sathish B.S, who informed them that the police have sought direction from the Court on whether Madani’s stay and treatment in the Holistic Health Centre is not a violation of his bail condition. “We had written to the public prosecutor of Special Court, Parapanna Agrhara 15 days ago that Madani is violating the bail condition, but we have not received any reply so far,” said an officer.
Madani is reportedly suffering from chronic ailments including diabetes, hypertension and vision impairment. He is an amputee and wheelchair bound.
He was arrested by the Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru police from Kerala in August 2010 for his alleged involvement in the serial blasts case, which claimed the life of a woman and injured several others and chargesheeted as accused number 31 in the case in Madivala police station (crime number 483/2008) in the additional chargesheet filed by the CCB.
