Stamps of renowned musicians released

This was the first time that India post Visakhapatnam region released such stamps
Visakhapatnam: In a first of its kind initiative, the department of posts released postage stamps of eight renowned Indian musicians at Andhra University’s platinum jubilee hall on Wednesday.Releasing the postage stamps on the musicians-Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, renowed Hindus-tani vocalist Bhimsen Joshi, legndary singer of Carnatic music D.K. Pattammal, Hindustani vocalist Gangubai Hangal, Noted Hindustani classical Singer Kumar Gandharva, sitar maestro Vilayat Khan, Hindustan classical singer Mallikarjun Mansur, Hindustani classical musician Ali Akbar Khan, Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University G.S.N. Raju said India post has been updating its technology to provide quality and transparent service to the people and it is also covering 95 per cent of the rural population in India.
Presenting the eight stamps of the musicians to Prof. Raju, chief postmaster general B.V. Sudhakar said India post is upgrading its technology and all the 1.63 lakh post offices will be networked in due course. Hyderabad circle has launched a scheme called Nanyata for quality and it would be launched in Vizag and Vijaywada soon. He said the that this was the first time that the India post Visakhapatnam region released a set of eight stamps on great musicians of the country at a time in honour of their services to Indian music.
