100 days of Modi: Saffron revamp aims at better connect

Many senior saffron leaders were inducted in the government
New Delhi: The BJP’s impressive performance in the Lok Sabha elections and the saffron party coming back to power after a decade’s gap under Narendra Modi’s leadership, also saw his close confidante Amit Shah taking over the saffron party’s reins. Mr Shah, hailed by many as the man who delivered politically and electorally crucial Uttar Pradesh to the BJP, succeeded Rajnath Singh, who was inducted into the Modi Cabinet.
Going by the principle of “one man one post”, the saffron party witnessed restructuring of the organisation as many of its senior leaders were inducted in the government. However, both Mr Modi and Mr Shah stressed on no contradictions between the government and the organisation regarding issues. Both the leaders, during their interactions with party leaders, always stress on that both the organisation and the government should give strength to each other.
To ensure better coordination between the government and the organisation, the saffron party’s top brass, including Mr Modi, advised senior leaders, including Union ministers, that they should regularly interact with party workers at party headquarters and should not discontinue the “sampark aur samvaad (connect and dialogue)” with those who helped the saffron party in achieving the stunning victory in the general elections.
Mr Modi also successfully implemented one of the main agendas of the Sangh Parivar fountainhead, the RSS, which was to give more opportunities to younger leaders and party veterans donning the role of guides and mentors to the organisation. The RSS has been trying hard to convince BJP veterans to give way for younger leaders.
Mr Modi had fixed an age bar of 75 years for his ministers. Mr Shah’s team also has 60 per cent of the office-bearers aged below 50 years. The same shall be implemented in the state units where the BJP wants new faces and younger leaders to be included in strengthening the organisation.
To send out a message to the people that its their government, Mr Modi also advised his ministers that they should regularly meet people of their constituencies as well as others to sort out their grievances. The BJP MPs’ performance in both inside Parliament as well as their constituency will also be reviewed.
“Both the government and the organisation are taking to the people schemes that will benefit them. While the government is implementing these schemes, the organisation is making sure that people across the nation are aware of these schemes. We got the mandate because we promised good governance and development and we are making it sure that we live up to the promises,” said BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.
