‘Cities for All’ is theme of Metropolis Conference

Good practices that are being implemented by foreign and Indian cities such as civic infrastructure, housing, job creation, water supply, sanitation can be discussed under one umbrella and can be replicated by different cities, he said, adding that the Conference will provide an environment of learning, engaging and economic exchange for the prosperity of global cities.

The Mayors’ conference is aimed to gather, engage, debate and share global dialogue on urbanisation with stakeholders of the cities around the world. Mr Lesaux, Metropolis secretary general, and Agnes Bickart, Metropolis manager, met Telangana state Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday and congratulated him for taking the initiative to organise the conference.

Mr Rao reviewed the arrangements of the conference that will see participation by mayors from different states in the country and abroad, besides commissioners, town planning officers and experts in the municipal administration.

Speaking to reporters at GHMC head office, Mr Lesaux, along with Metropolis country director, Sunil Dubey and with GHMC special commissioner, Babu Ahmed, said, that his team was in the city to discuss preparatory arrangements for the forthcoming conference.

Delegates from 100 international cities and 150 cities from India will participate in the Metropolis Conference. Mr Dubey said that they were pleased with the arrangements made by the TS government.

“No city in the world is perfect, they have issues and challenges; the Metropolis will be a great platform to discuss various issues and exchange good practices,” he said. Over 70 international speakers, including mayors, who are experts in urban fields will speak during the technical sessions, he said.

Mr Babu said that about 566 delegates had registered their names including 162 international delegates from 33 countries. As there is still a month left, registrations would go up to 2,000, he added.
