Lakshmipuram cab driver was subjected to torture: Autopsy report

Cab driver died due to third degree torture by police

Bengaluru: A cab driver, Pradeep, who committed suicide in his house in the city on August 23, was, according to his postmortem report, reportedly a victim of third degree torture, said an official source. The postmortem report of Pradeep, a resident of Lakshmipura in Kempegowda (K.G.) Nagar police station limits, reportedly states that while the cause of death was due to hanging, he had sustained deep contusions in his buttocks and inner thighs, which led to internal bleeding. Not mentioning the ‘Bombay Cut’ style of torture, the forensic report, which has been submitted to the concerned magistrate, who is heading the inquiry into the cause of Pardeep’s death, has allegedly stated that the deep injuries, which were reportedly inflicted on him over a period of time were not visible from the outside but showed up during the autopsy.

“There were deep injuries in his inner thighs and buttocks and lot of internal bleeding inside the subcutaneous tissues and deeper muscles, which reportedly continued,” said an official source. The autopsy report has allegedly given a graphic forensic description and the age of the injuries on Pradeep’s body. Pradeep committed suicide after he was released from alleged illegal detention by the K.G. Nagar police, who had picked him up following a complaint from his tenant for allegedly creating a ruckus.

The investigation report by Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East), Rohini Katoch had indicted K.G. Nagar Inspector C. D. Nagaraj and two constables for illegal detention and assault. A criminal case has been registered against the absconding cops, who have been placed under suspension. Meanwhile, the autopsy report of scrap dealer Mubarak Basha (37), a resident of L.R. Nagar, who died in judicial custody on August 31 in Central Prison at Parappana Agrahara reportedly states that the cause of death was “natural”. “He died after a cardiac arrest and fresh thrombosis. He had coronary artery disease and thrombosis, which may have been aggravated,” said the source. Basha, who was reportedly detained on August 19 by Koramangala police as a suspect in chain-snatching incidents was later arrested and kept in police custody till August 26, when he was sent to judicial custody. On August 31, the prison officials rushed him to Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
