Karnataka batsman feels that he can still contribute for team India

Bengaluru: His sunny days have shone bright, just like the deep dark nights which have enveloped him often. Irrespective of the situation, for Robin Uthappa it is all about giving his best and waiting for the rewards to flow his way. Looking slimmer and fitter, at 28, Robin Uthappa believes he still has it in him to make his Test debut and contribute to the national team, especially with the World Cup next year.

Did the India ‘A’ captaincy take a bit of edge from your batting?
Absolutely not. There was a bit of a blip but the funny thing was that I was not batting badly. That was the best part of it all. I was hitting the ball really well. I wasn’t struggling with anything. I was middling the ball and I was finding the fielder all the time. It is the part and parcel of the game. Sometimes there is the law of averages that plays a part. The good thing for me was that I was batting well. There was a lot of learning I took back from that tournament.
Do you think your new approach is good enough for Test cricket?
Absolutely. Last season, I missed out on six Ranji games. In five games, I was averaging about 55, so if I had played the other six games I could have done something more substantial. I do believe that is the ultimate goal for me. Even when I started off working with Pravin (Amre) sir that was the idea, to make myself ready to play Test cricket. I do believe that that is a part of my plan and I just need to justify it with solid performances in the Ranji Trophy.
