Telugu Desam Party, YSR Congress fight for power credit

Opposition slams Desam, calls it a ‘ribbon-cutting’ government
Hyderabad: The Telugu Desam and YSR Congress once again sparred in the AP Assembly on Monday over the power situation and fake liquor in the state.
AP ministers said power supply deficit in the state had been reduced to nil during the daytime after the formation of the TD government, while the Opposition leaders dismissed this claim and said former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s rule had witnessed lesser power cuts
IT minister Palle Raghunath Reddy said 24-hour-power would be supplied to all consumers in the state from October and LED light bulbs would be given to about 1.20 crore households in the state.
He said capacity had been increased from about 5,600 MW to nearly 10,695 MW during TD’s previous regime, while there was only 56 per cent capacity addition in the last 10 years. “Plant Load Factor also increased in our time, while it reduced under YSR. Crisil also downgraded ratings of discoms in the last 10 years,” he added.
In protest, YSRC MLA K. Govardhan Reddy said, “Your government is only a ribbon-cutting one, starting projects which were initiated in YSR’s rule.” TD legislators shot back saying YSR had burdened people with increased power cuts and also stole Mr Naidu’s idea of free power to the agricultural sector.
Opposition leader Y.S . Jagan Mohan Reddy meanwhile lashed out at the TD for invoking YSR’s name in every issue.
