Half of young women can’t find their vagina: survey

Many women were unable to pinpoint the vagina on a medical diagram of the female reproductive system

London: Half of women between the age of 26 to 35, can’t find the vagina on a diagram of the female reproductive system, a survey reveals.

According to the metro.co.uk, a new survey of 1000 women by the women’s cancer charity The Eve Appeal, only half of 26 to 35-year-olds were able to accurately pinpoint the vagina on a medical diagram of the female reproductive system.

As part of an initatiative to help detect cancer and to encourage women to pay more attention to their health down below, the study also revealed that a third of 16 to 25-year-old girls avoided going to their doctor about gynaecological issues due to embarrassment.

According to the report, in the same age group, a fifth couldn’t name a symptom of any of the five gynaecological cancers, which affect the womb, ovaries, cervix, vagina and vulva.

While nearly 40 per cent of girls aged between 16 and 25 said they preferred using names like ‘lady parts’ or ‘women’s bits’, about 65 per cent confessed that words like ‘vagina’ and ‘vulva’ were avoided.
