TS council asks AP higher education council to restrict itself

Hyderabad:Chairman of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) Prof. T. Papi Reddy, has warned that the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) should restrict itself only to the administration of colleges and universities in Andhra Pradesh.
Prof. Reddy also said that the TSCHE would carry out the admission process of the management quota despite notification for Category B seats already being issued by the APSCHE. He said that the supremacy of APSCHE shouldn’t continue and since the Telangana Council had been formed, it should be allowed to function on its own and govern in the Telangana state.
However, senior officials in APSCHE said that the two bodies should work in tandem and not confront each other. “Supreme Court guidelines are very clear that the APSCHE will complete admissions in colleges. The Telangana state council was formed after that and they can coordinate with us and not compete,” a senior APSCHE official said.
“The management quota notification has already been issued by us so there is no question of Telangana filling seats,” the official added. Prof. Reddy, however, stressed that the common education system would be adhered to for 10 years as envisaged in the AP Reorganisation Bill but admissions would be carried out by each Council in their respective states.
Meanwhile, the APSCHE has referred the TSCHE’s request for funding to the Andhra Pradesh government. Telangana Council had requested the APSCHE to grant a seeding fund for its day-to-day operations as bifurcation had not yet been carried out.
