A rare honour for Akkineni Nageswara Rao

USPS will honour legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao by issuing a postage stamp

Hyderabad: The United States Postal Service (USPS) will honour legendary actor Akkineni Nageswara Rao by issuing a postage stamp. It is an exceptional honour and he is the first ever Indian actor to receive it, according to the Akkineni Foundation of America (AFA). The foundation will host a special postal stamp release ceremony in Dallas, Texas on September 20, on ANR’s birth anniversary to mark this tribute. ANR passed away on January 22 this year.

AFA also plans to release the stamp in India at the Akkineni International Awards Ceremony in the presence of his family members. The event, hosted by AFA, will be held on December 17, at ANR College, Gudivada in Andhra Pradesh. “I am deeply touched and so are other members of the Akkineni family by the issuance of this postage stamp, and I am grateful to USPS for conferring one of America’s highest honours to my father,” the legendary actor’s son, Nagarjuna Akkineni said. “While my father has been cited many times as one of the most adored artistes of all time, this is certainly a big tribute to Indian cinema and our culture,” said Nagarjuna. Akkineni Nageswara Rao is one of the pioneers who influenced the Telugu film industry and Indian cinema with his variety of characters and films.
