Trade bodies welcome Capital panel report

109 government offices located in Hyderabad would have to be relocated

Visakhapatnam: Local industrialists and representatives of various trade bodies have welcomed, the recommendations of the Sivaramakrishnan Committee on shifting of various government offices related to industries, exports, fisheries, to Vizag, which has been their long pending demand.

They feel though it is disappointing that Vizag is not being considered as the capital of the state, the recommendation to shift around 108 government offices to Vizag would help the attempts of the government to decentralise the administration, to avoid the Hyderabad model of development.

It will also help the industries to work in tandem with the concerned officers and growth would be more rapid in the region. Vizag has already been declared as the next mega IT hub in AP.

The Sivaramakrishnan Committee observed that Vizag zone comprising VUDA area from Srikakulam to Kakinada of 5,573 sq kms long is regarded as the centre of heavy industry, manufacturing, ports and technical institutions.

And to facilitate the development of this area the committee recommended that the various government offices in particular those dealing with industry, manufacturing, ports, shipping, petrochemical, technical education among others, to be shifted here.

According to information available, there are as many as 109 government offices which are presently located in Hyderabad and would have to be relocated.
