New Delhi: Countering rumours about his son that tarnished both their images, Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Monday made a public statement on Wednesday. “During the last 15-20 days, there have been continuous rumours about me and my family.
I thought the rumours will end in some days. But they continued to gain momentum each day... I want to assure the nation that the day these allegations, even prima facie or even small, are proven against me or my family, I will quit politics and public life and sit at home,” he said After Mr Singh’s outburst, the PMO issued a statement saying, “The reports are plain lies, motivated and constitute a malicious attempt at character assassination and tarnishing the image of the government.”
BJP president Amit Shah also came out in Mr Singh’s defence and said the reports against Mr Singh and his son “are baseless, tactless and an attempt to malign the BJP.” Mr Shah said all saffron ministers “have displayed the highest level of integrity.”
