Bad state of roads to stay

Roads dug up for installation of water pipes remain unfixed
Hyderabad:From Radhika crossroads, ECIL, covering AS Rao Nagar, Defence Colony, Vayupuri and a few avenues of Sainikpuri, the internal roads have been dug up for months for installing the water pipeline of Godavari Ring Main II, from Ghanpur to Sainikpuri.
While installing the pipeline, the Water Board has broken the sewerage line at a few areas, doubling the work of official from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. Incidentally, this is the only major connecting road for about 8 lakh people living in the Kapra Circle. However, officials said that the works will continue for few more months.
The pipeline is being laid by the Water Board’s project wing. The work is still in progress and the pipeline has to be tested to the required pressure by the Board’s project wing. The wing will then have to give a clearance to restore the damages. Officials state that it will take more time to get the work done.
The concrete-cement road between Sridevi Kalyan Colony and Easwaripuri Colony was dug up and filled with earth after laying the Godavari water pipeline almost a year ago. But till date, a pucca road suitable for vehicular traffic has not been laid. This road used to significantly ease the traffic flow to Alwal from the Kapra side and various colonies between Netajinagar and Yapral, said Subha Rao, a resident of Sainikpuri. Also, since the roads are not wide, commuters have a tough time every day.
The Godavari Ring Main I is from Ghanpur to Hydernagar, and Ring Main II is from Ghanpur to Sainikpuri for internal distribution of Godavari water. The 56-km pipeline being laid by the Water Board will cover the entire city.
Rains expose shoddy city roads:
Tuesday’s heavy downpour exposed the poor execution of the Rs 70-crore worth of sanctioned works for road repairs by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, as several main roads and bridges were waterlogged.
Wards in the West Zone and South Zone have around 40 newly identified water stagnation points. Bible House junction, RTC crossroad and Jubilee Hills checkpost too continue to get inundated. The pre-monsoon main road repairs were carried out in a haphazard manner at various stretches.
The 21 main roads that have been identified for beautification and repair for the Metropolis Week have not even been touched, even though the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has just a month to complete works.
The Standing Committee has been asked to sanction Rs 25 crore for each zone at least to carry out road repair works in view of the Metropolis Week. However, a decision on this is pending.
