Sheila Dikshit puts in her papers 4 states get new Governors

Ms Dikshit may return to Delhi to lead the Congress against the BJP yet again

New Delhi: A day after meeting President Pranab Mukherjee and Union home minister Rajnath Singh, Kerala governor Sheila Diskhit resigned from her post on Tuesday. Ms Diskhit, however, claimed she had submitted her resignation on Monday itself during her meeting with the President.

Speculation is rife that Ms Dikshit may return to Delhi to lead the Congress against the BJP yet again. The former Delhi chief minister, who was defeated in last December’s Assembly elections, where she even lost her own seat, nevertheless appears to be the only hope for the Congress in Delhi as the only other possible leader, Ajay Maken, has not been able to make any significant impact in Delhi politics.

The Narendra Modi government, meanwhile, on Tuesday appointed four new governors Kalyan Singh for Rajasthan, Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala for Karnataka, Chennamaneni Vidyasagar Rao for Maharashtra and Mridula Sinha for Goa. With Ms Dikshit’s resignation she became the eighth UPA appointee in a gubernatorial post to have quit after the BJP government came to power at the Centre.
