Philips to locally manufacture 80 per cent domestic appliances by 2015

Philips is planning to manufacture the beauty and health care product range also

New Delhi: Philips India on August 27 said it would manufacture around 80 per cent of its domestic appliance range in India by 2015.

"By 2015, 80 per of our manufacturing in the entire domestic appliance portfolio will be in India. We have also started in the personal care," Philips Consumer Lifestyle President CL Indian Subcontinent ADA Ratnam said.

Presently, the company locally manufactures up to 65 per cent of its domestic appliance range. Encouraged by the success of domestic appliances, Philips is planning to manufacture the beauty and health care product range also. "Groomers, shavers, trimmers and few other high end products of beauty and health care products will also start moving into the country in a phased manner," he added.

In the domestic appliances sector, the company is constantly refreshing its range and bringing global products to India. "We are constantly refreshing our range bringing new products into it. Every year, we have certain amount of innovations. We are also trying to introduce new categories to India," said Philips Consumer Lifestyle Director Marketing, Domestic Appliances Gulbahar Taurani.

The company on August 27 launched PerfectCare Iron with 'Optimal Temp' technology priced at Rs 23,495 in its garment care range. Aiming to tap the premium market in the garment care segment Ratnam said:" Today consumers are looking for the innovative products and are ready to pay the price for the product with smart features and new innovations".

For the garment care section, the company is having dry and steam irons in its portfolio and 85 per of its production is locally manufactured. "We manufacture our 85 per cent range in India only," said Philips Consumer Lifestyle Director Marketing, Domestic Appliances Gulbahar Taurani.

Over Philips growth in the segment, he said "We have a plan and expectation that we will be growing somewhere between 25 to 30 per cent in the coming few years". India has a market size of Rs 6,000 crore of garment care and kitchen appliances and has overall growth rate of 10 per cent, Taurani added.
