AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu presses PM Modi for special status

CM is on a two day visit to the capital to meet important leaders
NEW DELHI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speedily implement promises made to the residuary state at the time of the passing of the AP Reorganisation Bill, 2014, including the much-coveted special category status.
The Chief Minister, who is on a two-day visit to the capital, reminded Mr Modi yet again that AP had been rendered “injustice” during the bifurcation and that the Centre will have to help the state with financial assistance as and when required.
“The discussion with the Prime Minister centred around the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. I demanded that everything that has been promised in the Act should be implemented,” Mr Naidu said after meeting Mr Modi. Sources told this newspaper that the Prime Minister said the Centre will come out with a roadmap on the implementation of the promises. The meeting with Mr Modi assumes significance as the issue of special category status hangs in balance with scrapping of the Planning Commission.
