Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi blocked Rajnath visit: State BJP President

'If he (Rajnath Singh) wish to visit, no government can deny security to the union minister'

Guwahati: A day after taking over the office, Assam BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya on Sunday created a major controversy by claiming that Union home minister Rajnath Singh could not visit trouble-torn Assam-Nagaland border just because the Congress ruled state government refused to cooperate in providing security.

However, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi clarified that he didn’t receive any communication indicating willingness of the Union home minister to visit violence-hit areas of Assam.

Rejecting the allegation, Assam home commissioner Gynendra Tripathy, said, “I don’t know what they are claiming but we have not received any communication indicating the visit of union home minister to Assam-Nagaland border. If he wish to visit, no government can deny security to the union minister.”

Mr Bhattacharaya who is demanding President’s rule in Assam also accused that state government was responsible for escalating the border dispute for the benefit of the Congress. “Whatever I have stated is based on facts. Mr Gogoi is a known liar,” Mr Bhattacharya said.
