DMDK general secretary post lying vacant

It is the only Dravidian party here to run its organisation without GS
Chennai: Actor-politician ‘Captain’ Vijayakanth’s DMDK, which is the principal opposition party in the state appears to have a unique trait. It is the only Dravidian party here to run its organisation with the general secretary’s post lying vacant for the last six years.
When the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) was launched in September 2005 in Madurai, Vijayakanth had appointed his fans’ association general secretary S. Ramu Vasanthan as the party’s general secretary. But since Vasanthan’s demise in 2009 the party has been managing without a general secretary.
Among the regional parties in Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa of AIADMK holds the most powerful post of general secretary in her party. She is set to be unanimously elected as the AIADMK’s seventh general secretary soon.
While the fire brand speaker Vaiko is the general secretary of his party (MDMK), K. Anbalagan is the general secretary of opposition DMK. In September 2013, DMDK deputy general secretary and former AIADMK MP, S. Austin, who fell out of Mr. Vijayakanth’s favour, had joined the DMK. The party fought the LS elections in the rainbow alliance forged by the BJP.
