Power cuts back in Visakhapatnam city

Visakhapatnam city have four hour cuts

Visakhapatnam: After weeks of respite, power cuts are back to haunt Vizagites. Several areas in the city have been witnessing power outage for two to three hours. Even as the state government has been assuring there will be no power cuts, power cuts have been bothering Vizagites in the last few days.

Due to cloudy conditions in the month of July there was significant decrease in temperatures as well as power consumption. With agriculture activity completed in all five districts there has been no pressure for power hence discoms were able to provide sufficient supply power even to industrial organisations without power holidays.

But, in the last ten days, temperatures have started rising across the state either due to weak monsoon activity or failure of cumulonimbus formation.

While Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts received comfortable rainfall, Vizag city has not been getting required precipitation.

According to sources, the power deficit in the region is about 1 Million Units per day.

The normal scheduled Load Relief for the district headquarters and corporations is three hours, an hour-and-a-half in the morning and eve-ning; municipal towns and mandal headquarters and Visakhapatnam city have four hour cuts; and are also getting LRs for three hours depending on the situation.

Industries were also being restricted to 30 percent load during night time in case of shortage of power.

In Vizianagaram, though officials announced power cuts for six hours, it extends up to eight hours. The same situation prevails in Srikakulam district and rural areas which have been facing major power shortages. Two spells of power cut schedules are being imposed for one hour in the morning and an hour-and-a-half in the evening in Vizag city.

A senior official from the discom said the LR schedules have been in force but are being imposed only during severe shortage of power.
