Visakhapatnam in grip of viral fever

45 dengue positive cases were reported in the district.

Visakhapatnam: Seasonal fevers are on the rise in Vizag rural. Apart from malaria, there is spurt in cases of viral fever and gastro enteritis in various parts of the district.

According to district malaria officer KVS Prasada Rao, their staff collected 4,61,197 blood samples in Vizag district, including Vizag city, rural and Agency villages and found 4,928 positive cases.

The officer said malaria cases increased in Vizag rural and Agency while the positive cases declined in Vizag city.

Similarly 45 dengue positive cases were reported in the district and no deaths so far.

However, leaders of Left parties allege that medical and health officials continue to be on a denial mode despite the rising cases of malaria and viral fevers. Though some persons died of viral and malaria fevers in Vizag Agency and other parts in the region, the officials didn’t register the deaths as malaria and viral fevers for their own reasons and misled the government.

Sources said that some villagers under Ravikamatham and Anakapalle mandals in the district are hit by viral and dengue fevers.
