Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh: Senior TDP leader Thota Seetharama Lakshmi on Friday urged the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to notify Bhimavaram town in West Godavari district as 'town of Export Excellence'.
The Rajya Sabha MP in her meeting with the chief minister at Hyderabad told Naidu that out of the total 41 aqua exporters in Andhra Pradesh, 14 are located at Bhimavaram and it has immense potential of shrimp/fisheries exports yet was neglected for the necessary basic infrastructure, according to an official release issued the same day.
She also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the chief minister and also requested Naidu to take up the issue with the ministry concerned.
The chief minister assured that he will take all necessary steps.
Earlier this month, Lakshmi had met Union Commerce and Industry minister Nirmala Seetha Raman and took up the matter.
"Under Central government's scheme, which says an area/cluster exports worth Rs 1,000 crores, it can be notified as 'Town of export excellence," she said.
